Take off all sheets, covers, blankets pillowcases, or toys from the area and wash as clean as one could imagine! Next, neatly place them in garbage bags and sealed containers. Do not put them back on the bed until after treatment. Make sure to empty all drawers. Be persistent in trying to find new areas bed bugs may be luring.
Types of Treatments
Vacuuming- To treat beg bugs by vacuuming, use a strong vacuum with attachments that can reach into small areas. Vacuuming physically removes bed bugs from an infested area. Take apart your bed and get rid of clutter from the infected room. Vacuum the flooring, carpet, box spring, mattress and another other fabrics within the room. Use the attachments to access small areas where bed bugs maybe hiding. Vacuuming will get rid of any bed bugs that are within easy access, but other bugs may be persistent, thus making more it difficult to eradicate.
Heat- This solution is far more superior as the heat penetrates cavities in the wall and other areas that may be otherwise hard to reach. This method of treatment is pretty safe since its non-chemical and non-toxic. Talk to your NYC bed bug exterminator for the best possible treatment idea. When certain temperatures are applied to the infestation areas the bed bugs are killed anywhere they may be hiding. This can mean that the whole population can be eradicated in one treatment. This is a time consuming technique, sometimes taking more than 60 minutes depending on the temperature applied. Nevertheless, it’s well worth the effort because it works!
Washing -Washing linens and fabrics from the infested room will kill and remove beg bugs that are present within the fabric. The soap used during washing and heat used during drying effectively kills any bed bugs that are present. Use other treatments along with washing linens, as bed bugs may be hiding in places other than linens.
Steam-Strong heat from a steamer can kill beg bugs in infested beds or carpets. While the steam will kill any bug that it comes in contact with, it may not reach all of the bugs present. Steam heat also has the potential to damage fabrics and surfaces, as well as wetting mattresses making it susceptible to mold. Ensure adequate air circulation to dry beds, carpets, rugs and all fabrics completely.
Sun- Infested articles should be placed in direct sunlight; the penetrating heat will eradicate the bed bugs. Place the infested objects in a warm, dry area where they will receive constant, direct sunlight.
Organic -When using organic or natural remedies, you reduce the risk of environmental damage and additional harm to your body and others in your home. This is particularly good if you or anyone in your home have asthma or allergic reactions to strong chemical ingredients.
Diatomaceous and Boric Acid-Diatomaceous earth and boric acid are natural powders that fend off and exterminate beg bugs. These powders should not be used on your mattress, or close to where you sleep. Powders should be sprinkled in crevices and cracks along the baseboards, walls, floors and ceilings where bed bugs may gain access to your home.
Covers- Another effective method of bed bug elimination is cloth or vinyl mattress encasements and pillow covers. Mattress encasement should be used to cover and protect the mattress and the box springs. It is important to use a quality zippered cover with a special zipper closure to make sure that bedbugs do not escape. This method traps the bed bugs thus making it impossible for them to escape; they will ultimately die from lack of air, food and suffocation.
Chemicals- Many pest control companies offer chemical treatment alternatives. The great thing about this method is that all bed bugs will be taken care of, granted you must take great measures to protect your personal effects. Another con is that you may not be able to sleep are go into a particular room due to the concentration of insecticides and chemicals in the air. Once several hours have passed though, your rooms will be back to normal and best of all, bed bug free.
Beg bug treatment can begin after you remove the bedding, disassemble the bed, empty nightstands, and pull up all rug and carpet edges to vacuum. It's often best to use residual insecticides in cracks and crevices where bed bugs harbor. Every crevice, electrical wall inputs, wall switch and anything else within 10 to 15 feet of the bed should be taken care of properly, especially those nearest to the mattress. Look for cracks from the floor to the ceiling as you inspect and treat all areas of the infestation. If you make a mess just be sure to clean it spotless.
Too much insecticide is better in most cases than going with less when it comes to bed bugs in an NYC bed bug treatment, remember they are resistant pests. Dust wall and furniture spaces and holes with reliable or specialized dusters. Turn bed box springs over and remove the cloth cover seal. Thoroughly inspect and treat the box springs area. After treatment replace the cloth cover seal with staples or screws. Hollow bed-frames, platforms, headboards and any other voids discovered during inspection should also be considered for void treatment. After every crack, crevice, switch plate, electrical switch, baseboard, box springs, mattress, has been treated and everything is put back, it is time for the residual treatment:
Once everything is replaced and all pesticide is dried, vacuum the area over to remove any dead or dying bedbugs. Be sure to throw the vacuum cleaner bag away outdoors. A systematic treatment is critical to achieve adequate control. It is usually essential to apply insecticides for bed bugs early in the day, so that insecticide spray residues will have several hours to dry, or dusts will have time to settle, before the room will be used again for sleeping
